Igniting Capacities: Live. Give. Learn. is a two-week community engagement opportunity in Thailand that is delivered in partnership with Challenges Abroad Australia. ACU students in NSW have the opportunity to teach English in Thailand and engage in a range of extra-curricular activities in local primary and secondary government and community schools.
The program benefits ACU students as they have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of marginalised students who experience extreme poverty. In addition to improving local students’ English language skills, the program has been recognised as being instrumental in growing the local students’ self-confidence and enhancing their cross-cultural understandings. These outcomes enable the program to extend the educational capacity of the local community and promote global citizenship values.
ACU students are supervised in country by staff from FutureSense who live in Thailand. FutureSense is a charity arm of Challenges Abroad Australia.
Students from all courses in NSW are welcome to volunteer to support this program and, if they are enrolled in a community engagement unit, to discuss with their lecturer whether this program is suitable as a community engagement placement.
