Meet our people
Following the appointment of Stephen Finlay as Professor and Institute Director, we are pleased to announce the following new appointments:
John Hawthorne (metaphysics, epistemology, philosophy of language) joins us as Professor in September 2019, coming from the University of Southern California where he retains the position of Professor. He was previously the Waynflete Professor of Metaphysical Philosophy at Oxford University, and has also taught at UNSW, Arizona State University, Syracuse University, Rutgers University, and Princeton University.
Verónica Gómez (metaphysics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of cognitive science) joins us in September 2020 as Research Fellow. She is currently completing her PhD at Rutgers.
Kyle Blumberg (philosophy of language, philosophy of mind) joins us as Research Fellow in March 2020. Kyle received his PhD from NYU in 2019, and is coming from a research fellowship at the University of Johannesburg in South Africa.
Renée Bolinger (political philosophy) joins us as Research Fellow (part time) in January 2020. Renée is assistant professor in the Department of Politics and the Center for Human Values at Princeton University, and will be in Melbourne during the US summer months through 2021.
Peter Fritz (logic, metaphysics, philosophy of language) joins us as Senior Research Fellow in July 2020, coming from the University of Oslo.
Simon Goldstein (logic, philosophy of language, epistemology) joins us as Senior Research Fellow in October 2019. Simon received his PhD from Rutgers University in 2017, and joins us from Lingnan University in Hong Kong.
Christina Dietz (philosophy of mind, epistemology) joins us as Research Fellow in March 2020. Christina received her DPhil from Oxford in 2019, and is coming from a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Southern California.
Samuel Baron (philosophy of time, philosophy of mathematics, metaphilosophy) joins us as Senior Research Fellow in January 2020, coming from the University of Western Australia.
Juhani Yli-Vakkuri (metaphysics and epistemology) joins us in January 2020 as Senior Research Fellow, coming from the University of Tartu, Estonia. He has previously held positions at Bielefeld University and the University of Oslo.
Sam Carter (philosophy of language, epistemology) joins us in September 2020 as Research Fellow. He is currently completing his PhD at Rutgers University.
Gillian Russell (logic, philosophy of language) joins us in 2020 as Professor. She is currently Alumni Distinguished Professor in Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an Arche Professorial Fellow at the University of St. Andrews.
Dmitri Gallow (philosophy of science, metaphysics, epistemology) joins us in 2020 as Senior Research Fellow, coming from the University of Pittsburgh.
Emily Thomas (history of metaphysics) joins us in January 2020 as Honorary Fellow. Emily is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Durham University, and will spend a month each year in Melbourne from 2020.
Clayton Littlejohn (epistemology, ethics, metaethics) joins us in April 2020 as Professor, coming from Kings College London.
Miriam Schoenfield (epistemology, ethics) joins us in January 2020 as Honorary Professor. Miriam is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Texas at Austin, and will spend a month each year in Melbourne beginning in 2021.
