The IRCI comprises three research programs: Biblical and Early Christian Studies, Medieval and Early Modern Studies, and Religion and Theology, and a node of the History of Emotions Centre for Excellence.
Within these research programs, the Institute brings together scholars who have established international research track records in New Testament studies, early Christian studies, medieval and early modern studies, historical and constructive theology, and religious studies.
A major focus of research in this program is the extent to which different strands of early Christianity aimed to define themselves in relation to Jewish and Greco-Roman religious, philosophical, rhetorical, social, and cultural heritages.
