Strong industry ties

Our strong industry links mean all of our teacher education programs are developed and accredited in collaboration with industry experts - including representatives from Catholic schools, government, international partners and independent schools.

We also offer specialised programs that accredit teachers to teach religious education in Catholic schools and Catholic leadership.

Pathways

There is more than one way to become a teacher. If you don't meet the state-based requirements for entry into our initial teacher education courses, we can offer you an alternative pathway and the support to help you reach your goal.

Embedded teacher education programs

Leadership Development Program

These graduates complete an intensive, placement-focused degree and are placed in schools in disadvantaged communities.

Catholic Teacher Education Consortium (CTEC)

Responding to the growing demand for teachers in Catholic schools across Melbourne's northern and western suburbs, we've partnered with the Catholic Teacher Education Consortium (CTEC): a group of Melbourne schools. Together, we're working to increase the participation of students from low-socioeconomic schools in university education, particularly in secondary teacher education courses.

Step Up into Teaching

The transition from secondary school to university can be daunting but our Step Up into Teaching initiative introduces university-level study to secondary students in a controlled and supportive tertiary preview. If you're in Year 11 or 12 at a selected school, you can study a first-year teacher education unit. You'll receive credit if you then enrol at ACU and choose to study a relevant teacher education course.

Programs for Indigenous students

The Bachelor of Education (Primary) is available by direct entry application to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Away From Base mode. This study mode allows you to live and work in your local community, while studying and attending week-long intensive residentials at Strathfield each semester.
