About occupational therapy

ACU students simulate an occupational therapy treatment

Occupational therapists play an important role in the lives of individuals and communities. They work to enable participation in occupations of self-care (such as showering and dressing), productivity (such as working or schooling) and leisure (such as sport and play). Our occupational therapy programs will prepare you to empower others, helping them to achieve occupational outcomes that support wellbeing. You’ll build empathy, enhance your respect for dignity and diversity, specialise in helping vulnerable individuals and communities, and recognise your responsibility towards the common good and ethical decision-making. Choose the Master of Rehabilitation and you’ll undertake advanced occupational therapy practicums related to home, work, and leisure participation, upper limb management of older adults and those with acquired brain injuries, and cognitive rehabilitation related to aged and neurological disorders.

Work that works wonders

Consistent with ACU’s values and mission, our occupational therapy courses emphasise the dignity of the human person and a sense of social justice and advocacy. We’ll encourage you to make this mission your own and contribute to local communities however you can. Study our Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, for example, and you’ll get to participate in 50 hours of community engagement in your second year. You’ll develop valuable connections, frontline experience, and satisfaction from service, as well as getting job-ready before you graduate.
