We have extensive research expertise across a number of health areas including Acute Care, Cardiovascular Disease, Acute Stroke, and Palliative Care. We work with a large number of partners in nursing, midwifery, paramedicine and public health delivery, which provide opportunities for industry experience and research collaboration.

Higher degree research

Higher degree research candidates at the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedicine have access to experts in their fields, excellent facilities and partners for industry collaboration. 

Past candidates have examined: 

  • The physical health care attitudes, skills and knowledge of nurses who work in acute mental health units
  • Nurses’ experience of managing patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Traditional midwifery or 'wise women' models of leadership: Learning from Indigenous cultures

Nursing Research Institute

The Nursing Research Institute is a collaboration between ACU and St Vincent’s Health Australia in Sydney. The School works closely with them to focus on implementing evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes and health systems.

Nursing Research and Practice Development Centre (NRPDC)

The NRPDC houses a nurse-led research team whose aim is to inspire, support and undertake quality research within The Prince Charles Hospital (TPCH) in Brisbane, Australia, with a focus on pressure injury research.

Midwifery Engaged Research, Innovation and Translation (MERIT) Group

Research into midwifery education, practice and workforce issues, and into childbearing and early parenting issues, is conducted at ACU by the Midwifery Engaged Research, Innovation and Translation (MERIT) Group.
